Now, where to begin? Your mind draws a blank. You are not trying to tell your story of addiction recovery. So, what do you write?
Here I have recovery word journal prompts to kick-start your creativity and get your brain’s journaling juice flowing.
These are not long prompted. Each prompt is one single word. (sometimes two words combined) You still need to dig deep and write from the heart.

How To Use Recovery Word Journal Prompts
There is NO set way to journal. Journaling is your OWN therapy. Do what’s best for you and what feels right to you.
The cool thing about these single word prompts are that there are so many ways to use them. Here are a few to get you going.
1. Don’t write the definition but, explain what the word means to you.
2. Make an acrostic poem. Here is an example of what acrostic is. We will use the word sober.

3. Write about a moment in your life where you experienced the “recovery word”.
4. Journal about how you overcame the “recovery word” or how you avoided it, used it, etc.
5. Start writing whatever comes to mind when you read that word.
6. Make a drawing, painting, coloring, or any artistic expression of the recovery word.
7. Pick 4 or 5 different recovery words and explain how they relate to one another in your life.
Now that you know a few ways to use each word, it’s time to get on to the good stuff. The actual recovery journal prompts.
