I don’t know how many articles I have read that list the same books about personal growth and self-imrpovement. Truthfully, I have even bought quite a few of them because I’m like oh wow, that’s going to help me. That sounds so cool. And when I started to read it, it truly sucked.

So let’s put the Unjunkiefied twist on this kinda thing and get to the 11 books that will change your life.

Each of these books is different. Yet, each book includes knowledge, information, tough love, and the right amount of badassery. If you are ready to get real with yourself and make some life-altering decisions then, I suggest you start right here.

We all have made a decision in life that we later regret. But have you ever made a choice that resulted in something horrific, ultimately changing your life forever?

You have probably seen this book on a few lists for the best personal growth books but, I had to include it.

Andrea Owen is one of my role-models. She is beautiful, intelligent, and has a no bullshit attitude, which I love and admire. Not to mention, she did create a new life after recovery. A kick-ass life. Yes, she is a recovering addict. Well, technically alcoholic.

4. Memoirs Aren’t Fairytales and Scars From A Memoir by Marni Mann

This is a 2 book addiction memoir series from Marni Mann.  I first read this book when I was in active heroin addiction. I feel that everyone should read these books.

First, anyone in addiction or who overcame their addiction needs to read it. I can’t explain because I don’t want to mess up the story.

This is probably the realest, authentic, true account of what heroin addiction is about. Finally, a memoir that doesn’t glamorize drug addiction and talk about having millions of dollars and livng life in the fast lane and making drug addiction look cool. It’s real and raw.

To so-called “normies” the opiod epidemic is infecting our country at a staggering and sickening rate. People are dying by the minute and there are stil those who think junkies are a waste of life and our tax dollars should not be spend on helping them.

Read these books and wake the fuck up about what is really going on, how addiction can even affect you, and that these “junkies” are real life people that can change.

5. Get Your Shit Together By Sara Knight

I was skeptical about purchasing this book at first but I’m glad I did.

See, I hate when I see books that talk about being badass and curse constantly coming from a woman that has had no struggles to overcome, looks like she is the captain of the chess team, and has a pink bow in her hair wearing a flowered blouse. To me, that is not badass and it’s a person pretending to be someone they are not.

How can you tell me how to fix my life after the hell I’ve been through when you have never had an obstacle to face in your life?

But that just goes to show that we shouldn’t make assuptions when we don’t know the story.  That was my assumption on this book to which I was pleasently suprised.

This woman did not have to overcome the struggles that I have or deal with the chaos that I did, or hope to make it through the night alive. She is normal and normal people have their shit too.

As people recovering from our past, we long for a sense of normalcy, just to discover that their is still chaos and struggles in a normal life. Just a different kind of bullshit.

And on our way to creating our ultimate dream life, we will run into difficulties and can relate it all to what she says in this book. Get it here and watch her TED talk below.

6. Come Matter Here by Hannah Brencher

Not everything is going to go as planner in life. We are people who know that.

Did you ever stop to think that what you do right now matters? That everything we do shapes our future?

This is one of the most inspirational books that I think everyone can relate to in one way or another. Don’t give up on yourself so easy. In fact, take a second to read this book. You need to.

7. Recovery: Freedom From Our Addiction by Russel Brand

While, I don’t relate to NA and AA programs or practice 12 step recovery treatment and even though, I can’t stand Russel Brand, this is a damn good book.

Russell does dive into how addict’s think, feel, why recovery is so hard, and how to take the steps to get the treatment you need. Plus, he does it all in a way that you actually want to listen to him. It is a must read book that can be highly effectie in changing your life for the better.

8. The Courage Habit by Kate Swoboda

Are you still stuck in the past? Scared to move forward or go for it beacause of what could go wrong?

Or maybe you just don’t believe in yourself enough because your life is one HUGE mess.

9. How To Stop Feeling Like Shit by Andrea Owen

Another awesome women’s self-improvment book by Andrea Owen.

Women tend to do think differently then men. There are things we do and think about ourselves that is plain bullshit. We seriously need to get it together but, we do it anyways. Including myself.

Andreas hits 14 habits that women do and tells you actionable steps for you to improve on yourself.  Trust me, if your a woman, you need this. Hell, I’m sure there are plenty of men that can relate to it as well. lol

10. Unfuck Your Brain by Faith Harper

If colorful language offends you then, don’t buy this book. Although, you are on Unjunkiefied so it must not bother you too much. lol

This is one book that I haven’t read yet but I’m ordering it right now and you should too. Click here to take my lead.

Here is the summary I took straight from Amazon. Read it and you will understand completely why I want and need to get this book. It sums up my crazy head completely.

Our brains do their best to help us out, but every so often they can be real assholes―having melt downs, getting addicted to things, or shutting down completely at the worst possible moments. Your brain knows it’s not good to do these things, but it can’t help it sometimes―especially if it’s obsessing about trauma it can’t overcome. That’s where this life-changing book comes in.

11. What the hell do I put here?

It’s time for a major moment of truth. I have NO clue what to put here, obviously.

This is an updated version of this post and believe it or not, 11 Must Read Books That Will Change Your Life is one of my top performing posts. I had to update it bevause it sucked. I had no review, just 11 books with no explanation. None of those books are the ones I have listed now.

They were the same old books on every list of life-changing books to get and this #11 spot belonged to You Are A Badass by Jen Sincero.

You Are A Badass

I do own this book. My bad, a waste of money.

I think I made it through about 30 pages or so before I couldn’t read anymore. Never do I want to be told how to be a badass by someone who in my opinion, is NOT a badass.

I expected so much from this book and in my opinion, it was a woman who never had to deal with any real struggle telling people who want good advice that if they really want something, why don’t they have it. Her condecending, ignornat ass attitude turned me off.

I swear quite often but that’s the way I talk. My impression was that of a poser. Someone who wishes that they were a badass woman. In order to appear like she is a badass success, she belittles and degrades people with real problems. WTF?

Get off your high horse. The book sucked. If you aren’t sure of the book I’m referring to, look below. Best seller? smh – what is this world coming to? Did these people actually read it?
